Eaves

The eaves of a roof refers to the horizontal overhanging edge of a pitched roof.

As water rolls down a sloped roof when it rains, eaves gutters are commonly installed to the eaves board to collect and direct rainwater down the house to a designated area, often a drainage.

The eaves soffit refers to the underside of the eaves that extends past the external wall.

And eaves vents are ventilation systems installed to allow airflow through the spaces within the roof so as to remove moisture.

A common problem that eaves cause is ice damming which can cause water to back up and flow into the building’s interior via the openings.
